Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits: Momma Went Shopping!

May 17th, 2012
First I took my candy awards and headed into the nearest cheapy mart to load up on candy!

Next, I picked up these blank DVDs because I finished creating my end of the year DVD for my kiddos over the weekend! (I spent my Saturday making myself tear up over and over as I put it together!)

Next,  I was thrilled to find these bags at the dollar store!  I am going to add cute labels to them for each student and put all the stuff I have been hoarding saving for my students in them.  They are nice and big for all of our oversized projects!
I normally make a cute end of year scrapbook for every student…
yeah-no…not this year. I am cutting myself some major slack
on that one and enjoying that I will just be filling their cute little bags with memories.
Not crying and hunched over the book binder when I haven’t pushed the construction
paper leprechaun far enough in the machine to get all the holes in place….shudder….

I also want to share this picture from stormwatch 2012 on Tuesday.
It’s the playground.  AKA the big kid playground.
We are still subject to the baby playground.
It’s ok we use the big kid playground for Friday reward recess.
It’s doesn’t matter that no one can reach anything…that’s totally irrelevant.
Just the fact that they are on the sacred big kid playground is reward enough.

…not to worry field day will be loads of fun.  Not a spec of mud or sludge will be brought back into the school I am sure of it. Be sure to bring your snorkel and floaties bathing suit!  And do I even need to mention what inside recess days are doing to these kids at this point in the year??????!!!! HUH? DO I???

Now for a break from your favorite first grade fashionista…. I am smelling the hot cocoa….(teacher tipster tip for calming down a student teacher who’s having a meltdown)

Ladies I know you want the shoes, but I am afraid they don not come in our size.

Well report cards are done, data is taken, testing is over, memory books are being created, projects are being bagged, awards are being written, field day is inevitable, and the kids are loud and proud…YUP it feels like the end of the school year!  6 more days!

Two Must-Have Tools for Shopping Online

May 8th, 2012

Friends, go download the web browser plug-in called Invisible Hand. Click here.  Stop reading, go do it.

K, did you do it?

If you didn’t (what? you don’t do everything I tell you to??), here’s why you need to. When you are shopping anywhere online, it automatically scours the rest of the web for you and instantly lets you know if the item you are looking at is cheaper somewhere else online. Kind of incredible.

It’s just a little bar at the top of your browser that will appear to let you know if you’ve found the best price or if you should buy elsewhere. If you’re not shopping, you won’t see anything new in your browser. Easy peasy. It’s available for almost all web browsers.

No, I’m not getting any sort of payment or referral bonus for telling you about Invisible Hand. I’m just newly obsessed and had to tell someone, anyone, everyone. I was reading Money magazine (oh sheesh, I’m officially an adult) and read about Invisible Hand and went to test it out on a gift I was planning to buy online at Bed Bath & Beyond. A little bar popped up and let me know that the item was cheaper on Amazon. So freaking cool.

Speaking of shopping online, if you don’t use eBates, go sign up for that too. Click here (yes, that is a referral link but you’ll thank me when you start getting checks in the mail).

Whenever you are buying something online, go to eBates first and see if the website has a partnership with eBates. If so, use the link found in eBates to access the website and (after you sign up for a free account) whenever you buy something from that eBates link, you’ll get a cash back on a percentage (anywhere from 2-7%) of whatever you spend at that online store. There are all sorts of stores – J.Crew, Nordstrom, Amazon, everything. After you shop, you’ll get a check in the mail or you can have it deposited into your PayPal account. Very cool.

You’re welcome. Happy shopping.

PS – Does anyone have a recommendation for workout headphones? I can’t find an earbud pair that will stay in my ear and the ones with the over-the-ear hook thingies have terrible sound.

Mrs. Wills Kindergarten: I have been shopping!!!

May 8th, 2012

Finally, (Well not finally because I have a lot more shopping to do) I got this packet.
This is 100% adorable!  I can use the heck out of this next year… I only wish I would have gotten it earlier.  It is filled with great activities to help students learn and practice punctuation.  This is from Michelle Oakes.
